Daedalus Aviation offers mountain check out packages that you can enroll in using your own aircraft or one of ours. The "standard mountain check out" package consists of one day of ground school covering basic altitude operations, aircraft performance, understanding density altitude, properly leaning your aircraft for altitude, flying mountain routes, navigation in the mountains, flight physiology and mountain weather patterns.
Then you will fly in a new Cessna 172 to Leadville (the highest paved airport in the lower 48 states), then across the continental divide to Aspen. The flight will cover several commonly used mountain routes and passes and will expose you to different mountain techniques.
Daedalus Aviation also offers an "expanded package" that includes visiting Kremling or Granby and crossing the continental divide over the Moffat tunnel. We can also explore other routes to make you more comfortable in Colorado's high country. Daedalus Aviation can also custom tailor a mountain flying course to fit your needs, schedule and budget.
